We are centrally located to many activities.
It is a short 10 minute drive to the towns of Jefferson and West Jefferson and is just a 30 minute
drive to Boone, NC - the home of Appalachian State University. We're also close to the Virginia and
Tennessee borders. The activities listed below are just some of the attractions you can visit while in
the area...there are way too many to list them all. An activities guide, local business brochures &
restaurant menus are provided in the cabin for your convenience. After booking your stay, we'd be happy to email you a

  • Blue Ridge Parkway (15 miles)- Offers 469 miles of highway with stunning views, abundant hiking trails, picnic areas, campsites, and interpretative exhibits.

  • Linville Caverns (65 miles)- Visitors are invited to explore the splendor and wonders nature created "inside a mountain".

  • Grandfather mountain (55 miles)- Attractions include:  Mile high swinging bridge, mountain scenery, environmental habitats for black bears, river otters, cougars, eagles and deer, picnicking, hiking, and exhibits.

  • Grayson Highlands State Park (18 miles)The park has nine hiking trails averaging a mile in length leading to panoramic vistas, scenic waterfalls and a 200 year old pioneer cabin. The park also offers access to the Appalachian Trail.

  • Virginia Creeper Trail (20 miles) Open to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.

  • Appalachian Ski Mountain (38 miles)- 11 slopes including 3 terrain parks. Quad chairlifts, double chairlift, conveyor lift, & handle pull lift. Open 7 days a week starting the Friday before Thanksgiving to late March/early April. Night skiing beginning the night after Thanksgiving. Refrigerated Outdoor Ice Arena with 3 sessions daily. Ski, snowboard, clothing and helmet rentals.

  • Beech Mountain (56 miles)- Enjoy snow sports such as skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating, as well as shopping and dining.

  • Sugar Mountain (50 miles)- Skiing in the winter, hiking and biking trails in the summer.

  • Hawksnest Resort (47 miles)- The largest Snow Tubing Park on the East Coast.  Our 20 Lane Snow Tubing Park has four different areas to snow tube; lanes are 400 – 1000 feet long. Our 2 conveyor lifts take our snow tubers back to the top for more rides. Hawksnest has 100% snow making and lighting on all lanes to provide the best possible conditions and fun for the whole family.

  • Shatley Springs Restaurant (3 miles)- Enjoy the all-you-can-eat country cooking, the famous spring water, and the beautiful mountain scenery.  Visit the gift shops, take a walk around the lake or sit and rest a spell in the rocking chairs on the porch.

  • Smoky Mountain Barbecue (9 miles)- Family oriented, fast service BBQ restaurant that also serves fried chicken, fried fish, country ham and a variety of sandwiches, salads and desserts.  Open for lunch and dinner Monday-Saturday, closed Sundays.

  • Monte D Rey Mexican Restaurant (9 miles)- For some of the best authentic Mexican Food you'll find anywhere in a clean, family-fun atmosphere, give Monte D Rey in Jefferson a try.

  • Twickenham House (7 miles)- Twickenham House & Hall is a private use, destination wedding venue and resort located on 400 pristine acres in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains with a grand ballroom for exclusive weddings and events.  

  • Timber Rivers Venue (0.5 mile)- Follow your heart to where the North Carolina mountains meet the peaceful sounds of the North Fork New River and you’ll find the perfect place to celebrate the wedding of your dreams or the special event in your life.  

  • Tweetsie Railroad (38 miles)- Families love riding on our famous steam engine for a trip back in time complete with Cowboys, train robbers and marauding renegades. Stroll down the Western Main Street and visit the jail. Take aim at the Arcade and Shooting Gallery.  Take a spin on the rides in the Country Fair and on Miner’s Mountain and check out the friendly animals at the Deer Park, stretch your legs on the playground, get your face painted or try your had at gem mining or panning for gold.    

  • Jefferson Landing Golf Course (9 miles)- Designed by US Open and two-time PGA Champion, Larry Nelson, Jefferson Landing's award-winning 7,110-yard, par 72 Course has a reputation of being challenging yet fair. Since its opening in 1991, the course is best known for its superb conditioning, outstanding playability for players of all levels, comprehensive practice facilities, and of course, its spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains

  • Mountainaire Golf Club (13 miles)- A beautiful 18-hole public course with spectacular mountain views.

  • Horn in the West (33 miles)- One of the nation's oldest Revolutionary War dramas, it portrays the lives of pioneers who braved the wilderness to settle in the Blue Ridge mountains seeking freedom from British tyranny.

  • Barter Theatre (48 miles)- able to accommodate 507 patrons, Barter Theatre is a grand theatre full of rich history and home to incredible productions.

  • Mystery Hill (38 miles)- During their visit people remember the remarkable defiance of gravity, where you can see a ball roll uphill, and where folks are pulled from an upright position to an uncanny standing angle of nearly 45°. This strange phenomenon has been amusing and puzzling visitors to Mystery Hill for generations.

  • Cardinal Lanes (7 miles) - Owners Mike and Helen Leserra invite you to come to Cardinal Lanes Family Fun Center for a special fun our friendly arcade games,billards, eat at the snack bar. Newly remodeled and very clean facility.
